Influence of hosta tincture on citolysis cellular membrane indicators in rats affected by tetrahloromethane

Topicality. At present, such various groups of drugs as: antioxidants, choleretic, vitamin preparations, immunomodulators, detoxification, inducers of enzyme systems, metabolism improving drugs, are used in pharmacotherapy and liver disease preventive medecine. Recently the interest of scientific and traditional medicine to the search and creation of new herbal medicinal products continues to grow. The search for new plant material for the purpose of creating on its basis medicines is an actual problem of modern pharmacy.
Aim. To investigate the effect of hosta lancetofolia tincture on the permeability of cell membranes in conditions of tetrachloromethane lesion of the liver.
Materials and methods. The studies were conducted on white, non-breeding male rats with simulated toxic liver damage with tetrachloromethane. One of the groups of animals received tincture from the hosta on 50 % ethylalcohol. Effectivenessofits influence was evaluated in comparison withth ereferral-preparatory silymarin. Euthanasia of rats was performed under thiopental anesthesia at the 4-th, 7-th and 14-th day of the experiment. Indicators of cytolysis of hepatocyte membranes were evaluated for the activity of aminotransferases and alkalinephosphatase, and the permeability of erythrocytic membranes was estimated by the size of the erythrocytic index of intoxication.
Results and discussion. It was shown that, aminotransferases and alkaline phosphatase activity increased after the damage of rats with tetrachloromethane in all terms of serum research. These indicators were reduced in the liver after lesion.The use of tincture from the hostа and silymarin leads to the normalization of the activity of these enzymes in serum and liver of rats until the end of the experiment, with their effect manifested virtually on the same level. Positive in fluence caused tincture and silymarin on the permeability of erythrocytic membranes in affected animals, reducing the irpercentage. On the 14-th day after poisoning with tetrachlorometane, the erythrocytic index of intoxication, with both corrective factors, turned out to bethelowest.
Conclusions. It was established that use of hosta leaves tincture in acute tetrachloromethane hepatitis has a clear hepatoprotective effect, which manifest sitselfinreducing the phenomena of cytolysis of hepatocytes and erythrocytes. Comparing the pharmacological activity of hosta tincture and drug comparison of silymarin we proved that the tincture was not less effective. This indicates the prospect of further study of the pharmacological properties of tincture from the leaves of the hosta.
