Topicality. It is known from the literature that raw material of hosta lancifolia contains a large amount of biologically active substances (BAS), in particular phenolic compounds, saponins, organic acids, polysaccharides. Due to the BAS presence in Eastern medicine, this plant is used to treat diseases accompanied by the development of inflammatory processes. Hosta is especially popular in treatment of ENT diseases. Therefore, it is important to study the anti-inflammatory activity of hosta lancifolia agents.
Aim. To study anti-inflammatory activity of tincture and dry extract from the leaves of hosta lancifolia.
Materials and methods. Investigation of anti-inflammatory activity was performed on the model of carrageenan inflammation of the paws in rats. Extract and tincture from hosta were administered intragastrically at doses of 100 mg/kg and 0.15 ml/kg body weight, respectively. As a comparison drug, diclofenac sodium was used, which was administered to animals at a dose of 8 mg/kg body weight. With the development of edema, it was observed in dynamics of 1, 3, 6 and 24 hours.
Results and discussion. As a result of study the tincture and dry extract from the leaves of hosta lancifolia, the anti-inflammatory effect of both agents was found, which is probably due to blockade of COX enzymes and exposure on such inflammatory mediators as prostaglandins. The maximum anti-inflammatory activity of both agents was noted in 24 hours later the onset of edema development.
Conclusions. The obtained results of the conducted studies confirm the presence of anti-inflammatory activity of tincture and dry extract from leaves of hostalancifolia.
